The stagingDate is when the legal duties obliging employers to enrol some or all of their workers into a qualifying pension scheme began.

Duties start date is a similar term but applies to those who became an employer for the first time on or after 1 October 2017. They have to immediately legally comply with automatic enrolment duties for their new members of staff. In this case, the duties start date is the first day the first member of staff started working for them; the stagingDate will be the first of the month containing the duties start date.
